Principal Etier

  • Hello Mattson Families and Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year

My name is Janine Etier and I am the principal at Mattson Middle School. Prior to being the principal, I served in the Assistant Principal role at Mattson for 6 years, so I have been a Mustang for 8 years now and it is my honor to welcome you all to the family!

I have absolutely loved working in the 澳门六合彩开奖现场直播 and being able to give back to the community members and families that we serve. I came to Kent by way of Auburn School District and Yakima School District before that. During my time in Auburn and Yakima, I worked as an English/Language Arts and Reading teacher and the Dean of students. I absolutely love how working in an administrative position allows me to get to know more of my students and helped them feel pride in who they are and what they bring to the table.

At Mattson Middle School, we have a positive, supportive, and safe learning environment where all students can learn. Here at Mattson, we all follow the 3Rs—Be Ready, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible. Middle school is a time of navigating independence and pushing the envelope and we love to support our students in their new endeavors, while also teaching them how to interact with their peers and the adults in their lives. Academics are always of the utmost importance, but we know we working on educating the whole brain child. We ensure that we are always asking ourselves, “and how are the children?” when thinking about our collaborative work as a staff. We are preparing our kiddos for high school AND beyond—whatever that path looks like for them—and we want to be an integral part of that path.

I am beyond excited to continue to work with my amazing staff and students and to foster a strong partnership with our families and community members.

Let’s have a great year back!
